Harmful pesicides: residues of pesticides in drinking water and food

The global anti-chemical movement is growing stronger. As scientists dare to acknowledge and educated consumers realize more and more that harmful residues of pesticides in drinking water, vegetables, fruit and almost any other non-organic food are impossible to get rid of, the producers of agrochemicals start talking about global shortage of food, their contribution to sustainability and the importance of technological progress.

Among the banned toxic substances used within pesticides are primarily those proven to cause cancer, endanger reproduction or genes, as well as those that negatively affect human nervous, immune or hormonal systems.

Substances likely to be harmful to bees will also be outlawed as bees are essential for the pollination of crops, while 20 percent of pesticides are very toxic to bees. The harmful use of pesticides has been the major reason for the recent sudden die-off of bee communities around the Planet.

Aerial crop spraying of pesticides will also be almost completely prohibited, with minor exceptions.

Buying only organic and biological food is often hard if not impossible due to limited supply in certain areas. However, when occasionally opting for non-organic onions or kiwi, you are not actually risking much according to the Environmental Working Group which has published a Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides, a research of  non-organic fruits & veggies market in the US measuring the content of pesticide in conventional (chemical) foods.
